Lease Comments
The Mohler field was discovered in 1958 with three gas wells on the north end of the field. The gas wells produced for nearly 20 years before the down-dip oil leg of the field was discovered. A second wave of drilling occurred in the 1980s, as the oil leg was developed and the boundaries of the reservoir were established. The Mohler field was unitized by Samedan Oil Corp in 1994. The Unit changed hands one time before it was purchased by CHT in 2000. CHT operated the Unit from 2000 to December 2014, at which time it was taken over by NPI, the current operator. NPI and CHT are related entities and the change of operations was a result of gaining administrative efficiency.
The Unit is a Morrow channel sand at a depth of ~5600′. The Morrow has high porosity and permeability, as demonstrated by the cumulative production throughout the life of the Unit. Before the Unit was formed in 1994, its wells had produced over 986 MBO and 9 BCF. A 1995 waterflood feasibility study, performed by Samedan, estimated that there were 81 MBO left of primary production with 1,500 to 2,000 MBO to be recovered with a waterflood. A 2006 numerical simulation study, performed by NPI, reported that the Unit had produced an incremental 140 MBO since the unit was formed in 1994 and estimated at 232 MBO remain to be recovered by the current waterflood pattern. The secondary recovery estimates were limited by the existing well pattern and the inability of NPI/CHT to invest sufficient capital to capture the 1,000+ MBO secondary reserves, originally estimated by Samedan. The Unit has produced 16 MBO since 2006, for a total cumulative production of 1,142 MBO. Current production is 4.5 BOPD from three wells.
